This is not rice flour or Mizinko that others carry - this is honest to goodness, 100% SGRS.
Beyond a doubt, this product has been the hardest one I've ever tried to find a source for. Over a period of many months, I tried countless samples of rice starch from many US suppliers and was beginning to think the real thing couldn't be found. I finally found an overseas exporter with the "real deal".
SGRS is considered a superior binder and was first mentioned in Shimizu's book, Fireworks: The Art, Science, and Technique. Since then, the process has been refined and the commercially produced SGRS available now dries even harder.
One advantage of using SGRS is in the "water resistant" nature of a dried SGRS star core. Add to that, the "water-proofing" prevents leaching of water soluble salts from successive layers when dry.
While SGRS needs more water to activate it compared to dextrin, stars made with it actually dry faster. Go figure...
- High amylopectin
- Water soluble
- Fine powder
- Purest available
- Dries like concrete
Apparently, this is also the adhesive of choice for Kanzashi Flowers. Thanks Peggy!
