There are many, many different grades of dextrin on the market and all are manufactured for different purposes. You can find cheaper varities but you won't find a better binding dextrin than this.
You can make your own "almost" Dextrin by baking corn starch if you have a few hours to bake it and another hour to clean out your wife's oven. You'll need to babysit it and keep stirring it as it goes from done to burnt pretty quickly. It won't have the binding abilities of this product but it is one of those things that everyone should try at least once.
